Very pleasant Pheasant

This was our third visit to The Pheasant hotel. Ownership has changed since our last visit but everything remains the same. Service is still excellent and we think that the food is even better now.The village of Harome is very picturesque and a short drive from the small town of Helmsley which is a nice place for a walk with shops, pubs and cafes. Very enjoyable night

Beautiful hotel very well decorated and styled rooms and service 2nd to none - the food was very good - not the best we’ve ever had but in the top 10 - which considering I live out of hotels approx 20 weeks per year all around the world from USA to Asia / Europe to Near East is pretty good going Fo22ie August 2024

The pheasant saved our anniversary lunch!

After a disappointing experience which resulted in us walking out of our original restaurant booking to celebrate our wedding anniversary with our son, we arrived at The Pheasant on spec. The welcome my husband received was immediately warm and accommodating as they ushered us in from the drizzly wet weather and into their cosy bar area with the fire blazing as they set about sorting a table for us. Both Sandy and Liam went out of their way to ‘save our anniversary’ and make it special for us. The food was delicious and the service fantastic. Although we did try to book the hotel recently, it had been a while since we visited and we can see why it remains so popular today. This place is a real gem, and the people were wonderful— thank you so very much, we will be back! Emma H September 2024

Excellent customer service

We were really impressed with this independent hotel, the customer service was second to none. When we arrived and were taken to our room we noted that the staff had already turned on the lamps so the room was welcoming. There was a good quality tea tray, with homemade biscuits and fresh milk in the fridge. Also we were provided with bottled water and apples. The toiletries smelt divine. We booked a time slot for the swimming pool which was perfect as you get the pool to yourself. Water was a just right temperature. Our hotel room was tastefully decorated and breakfast was relaxing and plentiful. Could not have asked for a more perfect night's stay. If ever we are back in the area would not hesitate to rebook. Very relaxing. Noddyrye September 22024

Excellent service

Lovely setting. Very comfortable room overlooking the duck pond. Service was excellent. Lounge and restaurant very attractive. Excellent breakfast. Nearby Hemsley well worth visiting. The Pheasant is well located for visiting Castle Howard and the North Yorkshire Moors. Hawtrey August 2024

Gem of a hotel

This is a lovely gem of a hotel. Lovely staff, attractive rooms with fabulous beds, great breakfast choices. We also had dinner and it was delightful. Great location - we visited the coast, Castle Howard and Fountain’s Abbey, all within a reasonable drive. Highly recommend. Alison B September 2024

Genuinely excellent

It's a gorgeous setting, looks genuine and welcoming on the outside and is exactly the same within. Appearances do not disappoint here. Staff are all professional and appropriately friendly, the public rooms cosy, the terrace sunny and the bar well stocked. The restaurant is very good - having stayed and eaten at both this and its village neighbour, we would come back to the Pheasant for preference. Jonathan B August 2024

Wonderful!

Difficult to write this review without overusing the word wonderful! Wonderful food, wonderful entertainment and wonderful atmosphere! Liam the manager has completely cracked hospitality - just the right balance of friendliness and hu. .mour. I also noticed his attention to detail when managing his staff team. All team members we came across were friendly and approachable and looked after us so well. We have been quite a few times over a number of years and the hotel is going from strength. Oops should have said wonderful setting as well! Ros C August 2024

Paradise at The Pheasant

We stayed at this delightful hotel for six nights and found it a most enjoyable experience. We drove under an archway into a delightful courtyard and there were several buildings which had been converted into guest rooms. We stayed in a suite accessed by an outside stone staircase. The accommodation was very comfortable with a sitting room with fireplace, a small kitchen. two bedrooms and a bathroom. Attention to detail was evident as we had clean towels every day, mineral water and milk everyday, and magazines were updated. Liam the manager is charming, cheerful and helpful as are all the staff. Nothing is too much trouble., The public rooms are all very stylish and there is a terrace overlooking a small lake where one can eat in fine weather. There is a small indoor swimming pool which we didn't use on this occasion. The breakfast menu is extensive and everything is freshly cooked. There is a good choice of menus in the evening and the food we had was delicious. We loved it and would definitely go again. Christine R August 2024

Incredible Food with A* Hospitality

I am not an easy customer when it comes to food. The amount of times I come back from a prestigious restaurant (and there are a lot where we live)…and I feel short changed and disappointed. The Pheasant bucks the trend. It is a symphony of incredible food, wonderful service with relaxing interiors that are not overthought…a home away from home where you can let your hair down and truly relax in the beautiful Yorkshire countryside. Thank you so much for a memorable and relaxing stay. A must for those seeking amazing food and a welcoming environment.

Wonderful stay at an oasis of quiet luxury

What a fabulous Hotel. We only stayed for one night, wish it could have been longer so we could continue to feel pampered and enjoy the wonderful calm atmosphere, extremely comfortable room and superb breakfast. We were treated like old friends, would gladly return. Congratulations to the whole team. Sarah B July 2024

What a find!

What a find! We only stayed for 1 night, but wish it could have been more. The accommodation is so very comfortable, the staff are helpful, friendly and engaging, and the breakfast was incredible. Even offer kippers! We shall be back, and next time will investigate the swimming pool. Thank you Pheasant! Sue Haslam July 2024

Great little hotel

Great setting - lovely lounge and dining area. Excellent local cask beer. Breakfast great and room very comfortable. We ate at the Star which is a short walk round the corner. Helmsley 2 miles away is a very pretty little market town - the walled garden is fantastic Ricky C July 2024

Birthday treat

Just returned from a fantastic night away at The Pheasant. As soon as we stepped through the door, Liam greeted us like old friends. The room was lovely & the food was amazing. Big shout out to Kyle who looked after us at dinner. We’ll definitely be coming back. June 2024

A special place

Another excellent 2 night stay at this delightful hotel. Liam and his team could not have made us more welcome with all staff being professional, courteous and friendly. The room was very comfortable overlooking the duck pond and the food and service first class. We were fortunate to be able to eat outside in the terrace and gardens on both evenings. We look forward to our next visit to this special hotel. Gordon C June 2024

Very enjoyable stay.

We had a lovely room, very comfortable. Friendly and helpful staff as usual. Delicious dinner and breakfasts. This was always a good hotel in a beautiful location, but under new management has gone from strength to strength in the past few years. Desmond H June 2024

Superb stay!

Arrived around midday - our room was ready! Brilliant. We had lunch on the Terrace - a beautiful setting helped with fabulous weather! Husband loved the knickerbocker glory!!Room (dog friendly) with master suite plus spare room with bunk beds and kitchenette with fridge, lounge with proper open fire - unable to use as weather so nice so will need to return in winter! Dinner ALC sat outside was lovely setting. Venison starter excellent; nice cod and halibut mains and fab soufflés! Staff lovely and friendly - Florence who looked after us during the day and evening, Liam brill but thanks to all. This place is lovely and relaxing - we hope to be back! Jo J June 2024

An absolute gem of a place.

This is not our first time here, so as you can see, we loved it so much we came back. This is also a dog friendly hotel, which helps us. The dog friendly suites are outside of the main building, but aren’t restricted to people with dogs. We’ve only stayed in Mallard, which is the upper one. It has 2 bedrooms, sitting area and kitchenette. Last time we came it was winter, so we lit the fire (a real one, not just a log burner!). Far too warm for one this visit. We included dinner in our stay and yet again chose the Tasting menu. The chef must be congratulated as each dish was perfectly balanced and a joy to eat. The girls serving were very knowledgeable about the dishes and were friendly and helpful. Before we went into dinner, we sat on the terrace for drinks, such a beautiful setting. J0c0llins1 June 2024

Beautiful, Just Beautiful

Visited this week for lunch with my wife for our anniversary and have to say EVERYTHING and I mean EVERYTHING was just perfect. Amazing food, service and presentation. The terrace and gardens well maintained in a fantastic setting. The interior design is beautiful So guys I suggest you get booking and enjoy every moment. We will certainly be visiting again but with an overnight stay. Landscape100 June 2024

A welcome retreat that's special

What a warm welcome we received arriving at the Hotel by Nicola on reception and Liam the manager, nothing was too much trouble . I had the best roast beef dinner and Yorkshire pudding it was perfectly seasoned and pink which melted in the mouth. Alan the bar man and staff were all attentive and friendly. Our accommodation was in the pear tree courtyard and I loved it . We had a super king size bed with beautiful feather duvet and pillows . Also a bath ! Karen and Richard June 2024

Lovely hotel

We’ve just returned from another excellent four-night stay at this lovely hotel. All the staff were friendly, professional and welcoming. We enjoyed our meals immensely - I think the food and service is outstanding. Our rooms were very comfortable: my Dad stayed downstairs in Ashdale, while my husband and I returned to Blakey, overlooking the duck pond, as we enjoyed it so much last time. A strength of this hotel is its lounge areas, which are a joy to spend time in; given my Dad’s limited mobility and the cold snap we were experiencing, these lovely spaces with log fires were particularly appreciated. We all returned home with very fond memories of a great stay. Janet U June 2024

Not to be missed Sunday Lunch

The Sunday Lunch at The Pheasant in Harome never fails to please. The roast beef is quite superb, cooked to perfection and served with everything you could wish for in a Sunday Lunch. The staff are all extremely friendly and very efficient. The whole place is full of atmosphere and you are made to feel completely at home from the moment you walk in. I would certainly recommend The Pheasant to anyone who enjoys a well cooked, beautifully served Sunday Lunch. Save room for desserts too as they are delicious. Susan B June 2024

Just amazing . . .

Celebrated hubbie' s birthday here with my brother and sister in law. Had a wonderful stay - just what the doctor ordered. Liam heads up the most amazing team, what a star he is. Warm, funny, so good at his job. Just had to give him a big hug as we were checking out. Everything was five star from our bedroom overlooking the village pond, to champagne in one of the lounges, through to dinner that night and then breakfast in the morning. Everything is done right here, just go and experience it. Thank you Liam and the team ❤ redharvey64_10 June 2024

An amazing little hotel, with first rate restaurant and food..

An amazing little hotel, with first rate restaurant and food. Seems a little out-of-the-way, but worth the short ride. The food at The Pheasant is excellent, well prepared, great service. The surroundings are very comfortable, homely, satisfying.

Never fails to deliver

From the moment we arrived we felt in a little oasis. The staff genuinely care and cannot do enough for you. The rooms are spotless and with the family rooms things such as the board games and children’s slippers show attention to detail and make a big difference. We ate in our room and in the restaurant and both times the food was excellent. Breakfast was excellent every morning and the lady serving was very good. Booking for swimming works really well and the pool was lovely and warm. Special shout out to Liam who made my daughter’s day with his little gift. We have visited a number of times before and will continue to do so. So many places don’t quite live up to expectations but The Pheasant never fails to deliver. Chloe May 2024

A great sunday lunch

My partner Ann and I had Sunday lunch on the outside deck. It was the best Sunday lunch we had both had for many a long day! The staff could not have been more attentive, the surroundings are beautiful and the whole experience was beyond excellent! Well done to one and all - we will be back again soon and thank you.
